二战结束后，曾在法国参加作战的印第安土著Jimmy Picard（本尼西奥·德尔·托罗 Benicio Del Toro 饰）住进了堪萨托皮卡军事医院。这家医院以专业医治脑病而著称。Jimmy Picard罹患多种疾病：眩晕、短暂失明、失去听觉……由于找不到任何器质性病变，医生将其诊断为精神分裂症。但医院仍然决定请法国专门研究北美印第安文化的人种学家及心理学家Georges Devereux（马修·阿马立克 Mathieu Amalric 饰）进行会诊。

出人意料地，很有趣，不枯燥。甚至比前年的《谈心疗法》有趣，而在演员完全无“癫狂”出演的情况下。但要总结剧情，只能说，一个印第安退伍军人接受心理治疗最后改变了自己的故事。。。但对心理治疗感兴趣的人真别错过，有种层层剥茧的感觉，解析了病人且留住了医生的神秘
